Our engineer-volunteers from AYON & YATRA, inspects a structure, part of Shree Basuki Secondary School, in Lakuri Bhanjyang. Dipesh and the team are currently working with a community-formed team of Lakuri Bhyajyang, led by Bijay Lama, local social worker and member of the ward’s Nagarik Manch, a ward-level government body, and Rajan Ji, the school’s headmaster, to chart out a plan for building temporary shelter. As a follow-up to a previous post on Lakuri Bhanjyang, we will start building the shelters from tomorrow, Tuesday. One of the impressions that we got out of consulting with Bijay, Rajan and others was – even if a government inspection team declared many houses only ‘partially destroyed’, the destruction can be considered complete because majority of these houses are no longer habitable.
